Messier 87 by DeathCl0ck Messier 87 by DeathCl0ck
Messier 87 is a supergiant elliptical galaxy. It is about 53.5 million light years away from Earth. It is the largest and the brightest galaxy within the northern Virgo cluster. It is located very close to the center of the Virgo cluster. It also has about 12,000 globular clusters orbiting the galaxy compared to the 150-200 globular clusters orbiting our Milky Way galaxy. The blue object which extends from the galaxy is the jet of matter from the center of the galaxy by a supermassive black hole. The jet is about 5,000 light years long. The supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy is one of the most massive known for such an object. It has a mass of about 6,600,000,000 times the mass of the Sun, with a diameter larger than the orbit of Pluto.

Superb; quite Hubble-esque.
You'd have added satellite galaxies, however; they're so close to her that appear on most pictures.

Like what Felewin said, I like the realism in this. :3 But I also like the simplicity of it as well! Great work on universe depictions!

Thanks! I really like how this one turned out myself. What do you think about the two stars and neighboring ellipticals? I just added them to the image so the scene didn't look so dull.

Definitely. They play a large role in the interest of the piece... I especially enjoy the galaxies because the shape is just hinted but the right amount of blur effect/appearance to look right.

Thanks! It took awhile to create. Sometimes I forget that I'm working in a huge resolution. Now I just need to figure out how to create spiral galaxies...
